2009 sees Ultimo's first foray into the world of full Cycling Team Sponsorship. Ultimo have taken over the naming rights sponsorship of last year's Delmaine Cycling Team. John, Allen and the Team at Ultimo have worked overtime to ensure that the Team is kitted out in the latest designs and will continue to work closely with Team Management in 09 to be at the fore front of the Cycle Clothing Industry in NZ.

2008 was a stellar year for the boys in Green with a brillant 2nd Overall at the Tour of Wellington in January through to their last outing in Green at the Tour of Southland where they picked up the Sprint Ace Jersey and also winning the final stage into Invercargill (Dominique Rollin).

The Team has been lucky enough to secure the services of the experienced Anthony Chapman (Chch) and the up and comer Jack Bauer (Wgtn). Anthony and Jack will be joining Joe Chapman (Team captain, Dunedin), Ashley Whitehead (Nelson), Sam King-Turner (Kapiti), Chris
Sanson (Levin), Mark Langlands (Waikato) and Matt Sillars (Auckland).

2009 will see the Team racing all over NZ at all the major races on the road calendar with the first outing as the “Ultimo Cycling Team” being the 1st race in the South Island Benchmark Series on the 1st Feb. For the Benchmark Series the Team have taken on 3 local Chch based riders to boost their numbers, Lester Settle, James Gibson and new resident American Daniel Dean with Lester managing the Team for the Series as well as being a leading Vet contender.

The Team continues to have valuable support from R&R Sport which this year will see the Team riding Jamis Bikes. Balance Nutrition continue to supply all of the Teams nutritional supplies and support and Qwik Kiwi Endurance Consultancy will make sure all the riders have access to the
latest coaching programmes and testing as well as providing Physio treatment at the major stage races.

So look out for the boys at a race near you in 09.

Steve Gurney - "I can recommend them"

"I’m a fussy bugger, and a perfectionist at that! I believe that winning is often in paying attention to the details. My sports clothing and equipment needs to be just right.

Ultimo have the patience and skills to pay attention to the details. They also have top technology, and a good range of different materials that makes for a versatile range of options. This is incredibly important in today’s competitive sports environment.

I could arrange logos and colours to match exactly the requirements of my sponsors and put them in orientations and positions that were optimal for the cameras. We tailor- made the fit and fabric panels to be comfortable and for optimal aerodynamics.

Ultimo were very flexible, were prepared to try new ideas for me and listened to my requirements without prejudice.

I can recommend them!"

I wanted to design my own, unique cycling kit to incorporate all my fantastic sponsors. It was important to find products that not only looked good but also were comfortable and provided a good fit. With Ultimo clothing this came naturally, they offer an extensive range of cycling clothes, their different cuts and sizes ensure a perfect fit.

The friendly team at Ultimo clothing bent over backwards to assist me, ensuring all my needs were catered for and my design was perfected and printed in the shortest time possible. Thanks to them the end product was something that my sponsors and I totally satisfied with… It’s perfect!!!

Ultimo produce comfortable clothing which is awesome for any kind of weather from scorching hot days to frosty, bitterly cold ones.

I have enjoyed wearing Ultimo gear because it looks great and is clearly visible to the thick traffic in Auckland. The gear fits me perfectly, better than any other cycling apparel I have worn before and is a nice tight and aerodynamic fit.

Ultimo, you really know what you are doing, thanks a lot!

Morrinsville Wheelers Cycling Club

This testimonial is from Morrinsville Wheelers Cycling Club in appreciation of Ultimo Clothing support for the Bev May Women’s Tour.

SPONSORING THE TOUR:

Morrinsville Wheelers orders our official club kit from Ultimo Clothing.  We have been so happy with our clothing that we asked for a sponsorship towards the Bev May Women’s Tour.  Thankfully Ultimo came to the party and have supplied sponsored jerseys for the tour from 2007.

Riders have been very appreciative of the jerseys and are very proud to wear them beyond the tour.   They are specifically ‘women’s cut’ which is very comfortable. They have huge zippers and decent, but not oversized pockets for ease of access. They are brightly coloured and advertise our club logo and race sponsors well.

Ultimo Clothing has sponsored key events within the tour whereby we have “Ultimo Hill Climber and Ultimo Sprint Ace” components. This is fantastic!  Riders get a buzz out of being called “Ultimo,” and enjoy the word play in use!

Morrinsville Wheelers thank Ultimo Clothing very much and are happy that a continued sponsorship is in the pipeline for future tours.  The Ultimo Brand has upped the profile of the Bev May Women’s Tour and we are now getting a larger contingent of women from all around New Zealand and overseas. This is fantastic for promoting women’s cycling!

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BEV MAY WOMEN’S TOUR

The Bev May Women’s Tour started in 1990 with 20 riders across A Grade, B Grade and U17 women.  The profile of the event has gradually increased with the introduction of C Grade and U15/U13 grades in recent years.  In 2008 the tour had 86 riders across all grades.

The tour promotes cycling for all abilities although maintain that the event has to pose a challenge to all.   We host a number of top New Zealand cyclists who use the tour to springboard themselves into their international cycling seasons.  Racing is over various terrains including a time trial, two road stages and a finishes with a criterium.

Bev May is the organiser of the tour with the support of Morrinsville Wheelers Cycling Club members.  She has been a cycling enthusiast, rider, commissaire since the 1960s. She is passionate about cycling and does all she can to promote women’s involvement in the sport.

Thank you Ultimo Clothing for your enthusiasm to promote the Bev May Women’s Tour and the virtues for which this event stands for: Competition, fair play, challenging women to participate and excel.

The Bev May Women's Tour
